Believe me, it really sucks living in Michigan during the winter. I continue to work on my swing all winter by hitting balls in my garage. It stinks that I am unable to actually see my ball flight but I focus on making a good swing and hitting ball first at impact. I usually hit about 75 balls every night. I do a lot of putting in my basement since the carpet I have mimics a green. I can putt 30 footers and focus on my speed and club square at impact. I am in the process of building a 40 ft long chipping mat that will allow my to get the ball to check up. I will go to the dome about once a week and we do have heated hitting bays at a couple of driving ranges.
There is just nothing good at all for a golfer in the north during winter. |

It's just the way it is and you deal with it. Some keeps their swing going, but people like myself basically hang the bag up for a few months. It usually takes me a few rounds to get things going again in the spring.
If work were no issue, my family would definitely be living in a warmer climate. I hope to move to North or South Carolina after the kids are out and on their own. Not just for golf but just warmer weather. |

Practice! You're talking about practice? The only thing I can do is continue my workouts, swing a heavy club in my basement along with some putting and chipping. The few times I have been outside at the range, the swing was so far off that if I could have missed just one way I would have been happy. The only time I went to my course was just to say hello. I just hope when I head to Florida to play next month that I can at least keep the ball in front of me. The past couple months have been very frustrating.

Can work with just about every club in my basement to keep from losing my touch. Does make a difference though when there'a a golf ball in front of you and when there's not. Like Mongo said, just something you learn to deal with as far as not losing your mind.

I play 18 holes on the simulator once a week. Its not pure golf but its good for the senses. When I struggle with my swing I go back to the video and look for anything out of the ordinary.
I think about my golf game quite a bit in the off season and I try to access my weaknesses and how I might make them my strengths or worse case scenario a less of a liability. |

I'm in sunny Calif, cold weather does not stop my golf game, Duck season that stops me from playing. I went out Monday and hit balls for the first time in 4 months, The swing was good the one thing that is gone is putting and feel shots. few weeks and a few rounds most of it comes back. why not play or hit range then?? some how after 14 hours in the blind I can not talk myself into range time. Duck season is 110 days of those I will hunt 55 to 65 days.

Same as Mongo, just put the clubs away or maybe hope for weekend getaway. I'm heading to Naples Florida in a couple weeks and will play a few rounds in preparation of trip to Scotland mid May. Went back to home in NC last week but it either snowed or was around 18-30 degrees so that didn't work.

Lucky you, which courses do you play in Naples area? I stay in Bonita Springs for a week every Thanksgiving & I'm always looking to play new tracks in that area.

I had that exact same net for a back stop when my son was pitching. I used it later to hit golf balls into. It didn't last long. The spin on the balls ate it up in less than a week.

Thankfully I am in San Jose California now. But I lived in Michigan ten winters, so I really do feel for you guys and know what you go through.
Soon it will be over. Golf will once again emerge. I know it can come too soon. |

Friday we will play Country Club of Everglades (with a member) and Saturday we are playing the new Treviso Bay TPC. Not sure about Sunday yet. |
