I would like to highly recommend V1 swing software for the I-Phone or Droid phones. This winter I have decided to take more personal responsibility for golf swing. That means no lessons and taping and looking at my swing on my own.

The V1 software download costs $5 and it might be the best $5 I have ever spent in golf. You can maximize, slow down, reverse, draw plane lines and circles not only on your taped swings but their software includes 50-75 professional golfer swings...like Rory, Charl Swartzel, Justin Rose...and many many more. The only two I don't see are Tiger and Phil. They have LPGA players and Senior PGA golfers as well.

Then you can view your taped swing side by side with a pros.

Its awesome. I have learned quite a bit about my misses, why I miss and how to minimize my big mistakes.

If you are a poor, good or great golfer this software can help you. If you do get it and you want some help analyzing your swing I would be more than happy to give my two cents. Once you know the basics you can go it alone.

agreed...great software. The drills actually have good relevance as well.

I've been thinking about doing this myself and your post has taken me over the edge. I'd like to request that we talk a little bit about what else is needed. I assume we'll need to mount our smartphone somewhere. How does that work with the V1 software and any idea of sources for those mounts? Anything else we should need to make the best use of the V1 app?

This is what I have:

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone which is the 3rd largest smartphone out there. When I first got the mount out of the package and put my phone in, it popped the spring on the bracket, but I got it to work.
Then I saw this just this morning:

Much Pricier, but it will hold the larger smartphones.
When I'm making movies of my swing in the backyard, I use a 4 ft ladder with the fold down paint tray to set the tripod on. But this spring, I'll be taking it to the range and it can easily be set on my push cart (just adjust the handle to flat).
Once you hit the red button on the software, you have 15 seconds to set up to the ball, afterwards it gives you an audio cue that it has started recording. It even "loops" the recording mode so once it's completed filming one swing, it starts the countdown for the next swing, etc. Hope it helps.

I tried V1 on my Droid X2 and it froze every other time that I tried to record with it. Was great when it actually worked though.

My thoughts.
Mark, right now I just place my smart phone on the bar in my golf room. That being said, in the summer I will purchase a mount. The ebay mount works and is cost effective. Although if you have a standbag i think you could easily set up on your bag.

Army, I have never had an issue with the software. Maybe its a newer version. That being said my pro uses the same v1 software at my club. He loves it.

More thoughts: the key to getting the best image is to make sure the camera is aiming down the line created by your hands. This will best capture your swing plane.

I have posted many still images of my swing on this site using the software. I have yet to figure out how to post the slow motion video feed.

We will see how this goes throughout the year. I am hoping that this replaces my golf lessons and helps me track my swing progress.

Mark, I learned even more by taping the swings of my friends, especially those who have a very strong game. I think that is as helpful, if not more helpful that analyzing Rory's swing.

That's really helpful guys.

I've got a stand bag, so I think I'll start by downloading the V1 software and see if there is a reasonable way to set it up on the stand bag or using my 35mm camera tripod. The Joby looks great for setting up a smart phone on a flat surface. Don't see a way to reasonably use it with a stand bag.

I've got a DROID X, so the comment about freezing is concerning. For $5 though, I'll give it a go and let you know what I find.

The tips on camera angle is very much appreciated.

True enough, forgot about this one at WalMart. This'll wrap around anything.

I assume yo review your swing on the range or back yard soon after each video loop. Does it only work on phones? Can I use an iPad? And that may need a larger mount but would be easier to review.

I just got one of these- http://www.camcaddypro.com/#al..

Snaps to an Alignment rod, it works well enough. Hardest part is lining it up and getting the angle right.

It works exceptionally well with an Ipod. My head pro is considered one of the best teachers in the state and he does outdoor playing lessons and uses the I-pod V1 program.

I too have the Droid, and I have not once had an issue.
